About the Author
Since 1973, Rick has spent about four months a year exploring Europe. His mission: to empower Americans to have European trips that are fun, affordable, and culturally broadening. Rick produces a best-selling guidebook series, a public television series, and a public radio show, and organizes small-group tours that take over 20,000 travelers to Europe annually. He does all of this with the help of a hardworking, well-traveled staff of 100 at Rick Steves' Europe in Edmonds, Washington, near Seattle. When not on the road, Rick is active in his church and with advocacy groups focused on economic justice, drug policy reform, and ending hunger. To recharge, Rick plays piano, relaxes at his family cabin in the Cascade Mountains, and spends time with his partner Trish, son Andy, and daughter Jackie.
Steve Smith manages tour planning for Rick Steves' Europe Through the Back Door and has been researching guidebooks with Rick for two decades. Fluent in French, he's lived in France on several occasions, starting when he was seven, and has traveled there annually since 1986. Steve's wife, who is an expert on French cuisine and wine, provides invaluable contributions to his books, as do his two children.

Favorite France Guide

Rick Steves is a wonderful travel writer, and his travel books are the only ones I read. Compared to other popular travel books which are dry and dull, Rick's books are like chatting with an old friend who has just returned from a fascinating journey.
I've been using Rick's France guide since 2010. The book is full of personal touches and information you won't find in any other book. I've used this book on several trips around France. My favorite parts were the sections on Paris, Strasbourg and the Loire Valley.
One thing I've noticed with these guidebooks is that the overall text does not change from year to year. Of course, current details such as prices and phone numbers are updated yearly, but that type of information may have changed by the time the book is published. So be sure to double check important details before you go!

We love the Rick Steves' guides

My husband and I just returned from a week in the Bordeaux region of France. Traveling with Rick Steves is so easy. His advice and recommendations are always spot on! This time we bought the kindle version and downloaded it to our iPads. We will never buy the paper book again. The ebook has many handy links that make finding information much easier. And having the book in a searchable format is great.

Great Guide Book for My Kind of Traveling

We have used Rick Steve's Travel Guides for numerous trips and found them to be extremely useful in all aspects of our planning and while traveling. He and his team keep them up-to-date and provide timely additions on his website if something has changed since his latest revised guide. His books are for those travelers who want a little more contact with the places and people of the particular country. He recommends walks to take, sites to see, places to stay and eat, shortcuts to tourist sites, practicalities of traveling overseas, and many more features. All of this with your pocketbook in mind. I have recommended his website and guide books to many people and have seen it in use by many other travelers when overseas. I highly recommend them.
