This story runs from one delicious moment of interaction to the next

My initial intention when I started reading this book was to read a few pages, then put it down and go to bed. A couple of hours later, I put the book down after I finished it - and I wanted more!

Amanda Usen has managed to incorporate food as a third highly charged sensualized element that both explains the characters and fuels their attraction and connection. Both Culinary Academy graduates, Lila is known for her unusual combinations that elevate a dish to `more', where her chief competition Jack is a master of the classical combinations and techniques that create the perfect bite.

The characters were very well created: Lila is a fighter, struggling with debt and her inherent need to run away when the going gets tough. Jack is struggling against his undemonstrative father, never feeling quite `enough' to fill his dreams of a culinary empire. Together their chemistry is smoking hot, they are perfect together as long as they don't speak: or stick to discussions about food.

While both have disparate intentions for their collaboration in the kitchen, their attraction is the overwhelming force that both try to ignore, and fail miserably. It's no surprise that their tempers and baggage lead them to believe the worst of one another despite the magic they make in the bedroom.

This story runs from one delicious moment of interaction to the next: food becomes the third character in the sexy connection between Jack and Lila: described with sensuality that has your mouth watering. Their interactions are steamy and loaded with sexual tension, but their connection runs far deeper as both share bits of their life and pain you see their connection deepening and becoming more solidly defined. Demanding you read on- this is one culinary romance that is not to be missed.

But on the topic of food and love: Usen is a master at having her characters make both so damn well.

From the moment Jack Calabrese sleeps with Lila Grant and steals her recipes to win their culinary academy competition, we know there's going to be hell to pay. He breaks her heart and shakes her confidence...but not her spirit.

Six months later, hard-working Lila finds herself serving up hors d'oeuvres - and her cleavage, courtesy of a French maid's costume - to Jack at a bachelor party. If the cocky, poor little rich boy thinks he's going to pop back into her life as easily as popping one of her decadent salmon scones between his lips, he's got another thing coming. Hell, no - as Lila loves to say.

I loved Lila's work ethic (starting with setting the alarm to make sure her sleeping lover/fellow competitor didn't oversleep the morning of the competition) and her feisty passion. She's talented and creative, but when she realizes her inspiration to cook comes from the wants and needs of those around her, Lila really shines.

Jack is no slouch; he is powerfully driven and passionate as well. Whether he is trying to please his father in the kitchen or Lila in the bedroom, he's a tempest of talent and determination. At the same time, he was balanced with a vulnerability that I found irresistible.

FOOD IS LOVE: Usen demonstrates how both can be delicate and complicated, yet bold and simple. Beautiful and satisfying. Putting both out there - whether it's putting your heart and soul into a dish, or opening your heart and soul to someone - is scary as well.

Revenge, passion, and betrayal - Usen serves it up in a tightly woven story with all the mouth-watering garnishes, leaving readers' palates and emotions satisfied.

short detailed look at type

This is a relatively small book, but it packs a lot into a short space. It is "authoritative" in that it does not provide reasons or explanations for the typographic suggestions it makes. So look for a longer, more analytical work if you need explanations. This is a handy reference that shows the minimums needed to set good looking type. It is a handy reference to keep nearby when looking at typesetting projects that offer challenges. Using this booklet, you have an additional tool to help get well crafted type.

My experience so far...

First, I’d like to say I have no doctorate in child behavior and the only expertise I can actually share in raising a child/children is my personal experience with my own.

I was first introduced to this book by my child’s pediatrician. They recommended this book b/c there were some serious attitude that had me concerned about my child at 18 months old. He would throw some serious fits to the point that he would develop a petechia rash on his face; he’d hit, bite, and pinch. I have no idea where he learned these awful behaviors from and I’m not gonna lie ~ it terrified me. I didn’t want to raise that kind of child, nor did I want to have that ‘kid’ in daycare. I wasn’t into the idea of spanking him. I felt that would just escalate the violence that he was already lashing out with.

So, after reading the book and careful consideration, we tried this form of discipline.

I’m not going to say that this book is the end all to bad behavior, nor is it some magical solution with raising a willful, stubborn child. My kid is almost 2 ½ yrs old, he is still constantly pushing his limits, and testing everything, and everyone. I’ve probably read this book once but I have refreshed/skimmed thru it several times in the past year. With saying that, idk if I’m in love with this book or if I just like it. My son still lashes out occasionally, but on less of an occasion that he did before. I’m giving it some more time, b/c it seems to be working… via the long route. But, who ever said that raising kids would be easy and full of short cuts?

While I do believe that every parent will have a different child with a different personality, this method might not be for everyone. But for us, right now, this is the method that we have chosen to go with and it seems to be working.

I also have downloaded and keep a summary pdf that I’ve found online of this book on hand for reference for baby sitters as well as family that I leave my child with.

The Ultimate Book For Parents

Almost 16 years ago, I purchased my first copy of this book. I will tell you it changed everything in terms of behavior issues I was having with my 3 year old (at the time) daughter. Since then I have purchased probably 15 copies of this book to give to parents having the same issues with their kids acting out, not following directions, throwing fits in stores, the I want stage, the mine stage, getting homework done, studying, picking up after themselves etc., etc.

After purchasing this book, and following the principles outlined without deviation, I only had to spank my daughter one time in the 16 years that followed. She's now 19 years old, such a well balanced young woman, in her third year in college.

I can tell you, if you have challenges with your kids and you follow consistently the directions in this book, you will have such a better relationship with your children. I have read people that say a lot of negatives about this book, but the book is NOT designed to replace being a parent. It opens up a world of opportunity for you to actually learn to communcate with your children, give them all the affection they need, teach them how to communicate with you, early and often. The process in this book establishes boundaries which then allow you, as the parent, to explore your relationships and more effectively communicate and love one another as a family.

If you don't talk to your children and love on your children, this book may "help" solve some acting out issues, but it will not help solve the root problem which may be your child crying out for your attention. Combine the process in the book with communication and love. Do this, and your relationship with your children will be so much better and your children will one day thank you, just like mine.....

Many so-called Internet books are nothing more than printed collections of Web addresses, but John Levine, Carol Baroudi, and Margaret Levine Young recognize that deciding to use the Internet involves financial commitments and computer-hardware decisions as much as it does looking at neat pictures. That said, don't expect to set up your own e-commerce site with this book, and don't expect to find step-by-step instructions for starting your computer. But do expect to get some good advice about picking an ISP (Internet Service Provider), protecting your privacy (and your kids), and connecting with Windows or a Mac. The authors also do an exceptional job of explaining such terms as PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) and what it is for, and they even talk about the old Unix shell account (with a Lynx text browser) for those not getting a PPP account. You'll find tips for optimizing your browser for speed, building your first Web page, managing e-mail, subscribing to mailing lists, and, yes, shopping. What is most impressive, however, is the balanced approach the authors take in evaluating Web sites (they do give some Web addresses), online services, and browser software. Provides a complete table of contents and an index of more than 2,200 entries. Topics range from The Net at Home and Work, Your Kids, Web TV and Shopping, to Your First Home Page, Mail, Messages, Chats, and Swiping Files from the Net. Written in the fun, but informative style of the "Dummies" series. At $ 15.95 you'll find a wealth of information to help you. I keep this book on my desk and refer to it often. My two sons are systems analysts and programmers, but I find the things I need faster in this book, than trying to understand what the boys are saying with their technical jargon ! After they answer my question, I still look it up in the book so I can understand the "practical" steps I need to take to get what I want.
