Arthur Asa Berger is Professor Emeritus of Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts at San Francisco State University, where he taught between 1965 and 2003. He has published more than 100 articles, numerous book reviews, and more than 60 books. Among his latest books are the third edition of Media and Communication Research Methods: An Introduction to Qualitative and Quantitative Approaches (2013), The Academic Writer’s Toolkit: A User’s Manual (2008), What Objects Mean: An Introduction to Material Culture (2009), Bali Tourism (2013), Tourism in Japan: An Ethno-Semiotic Analysis (2010), The Culture Theorist’s Book of Quotations (2010), and The Objects of Our Affection: Semiotics and Consumer Culture (2010). He has also written a number of academic mysteries such as Durkheim is Dead: Sherlock Holmes is Introduced to Sociological Theory (2003) and Mistake in Identity: A Cultural Studies Murder Mystery (2005). Diop's theory of the polarization of the Southern and Northern hemispheres of the earth along the continent of Asia acting as a "zone of confluence" is a precise outlining for the different practices of social organization as they existed in the past. He goes into the studies of many 17th century socialist such as JJ Bachofen, Lewis H. Morgan, and Friedrich Engels to show the many discrepancies created out of preassumption of the characteristics of people who they never tooken in to study, such as the many societies existing within the interior of Africa.

It seems the main theory that he wishes to debunk is that of an parallel development of social organization existing between the hemispheres. This logically could not have existed due to the many difficulties a people living in two different climates varying from an abundance of resources to the disperation of a scarcity would have practicing the same modes of production and consumption. This book is deep and complex. One has to read it to grasp and understand. Anyway, Diop essentially divides the world into two cradles - the Northern (patriarchal in character), and Southern (Black and matriarchal). He clearly demonstrates that matriarchy could only be found in Black populations, specifically in Africa, or other places subject to Black influence. European and Asiatic societies have a patriarchal regime because of the demanding nomadic lifestyle in the Eurasian steppes. The sedentary life of Blacks is what fueled great respect for women...the Black woman being the inventor of agriculture. Children often got their names from the mother's lineage. He clearly argues his facts by explaining dowry, fire worship, cremation, amazonism, etc. He gives thorough examples throughout.
This is not just another feel-good book from a zealous Afrocentrist. This is true scholarship! I am sure all readers will be convinced when they finish reading it. Islam, colonization, and Christianity have truely changed the Black world in terms of its matriarchal character. We should respect our women. Perhaps it's matriarchy that fueled our ancient societies to become world powers in our glory days. We can only imagine. Can Africa ever really gain what it's lost? That's the question. In a way, I feel that Diop asks the same question.

Very technical but good

This is a good book it was required for one of my courses but does a good job of explaining concepts. However it is very technical, cold and dry so if you need something else to learn with this is not the book for yoU!

I bought the kindle version. Do not make the same mistake. Equations don't show properly, tables are too small, book index is a pain. Simply: don't do this to yourself.

Explosive Action

I gave this book five stars because it definitely related someone walking into supernatural favor(check cover)! I like how this book puts YOU right in a circumstance, and shows how when you apply the word of God through speech and action, you shall come out victorious. It was hard for me stop reading, but when I was interrupted and had to get back to where I was, I didn't feel loss. The declarations at the end of each chapter is definitely focused and worth meditating on. My title said explosive action because it felt just like that, not like a stunt man, but me walking into a realm, ready to receive supernatural favor. Great job, and I recommend you get the other book Possess Your Healing, it speaks life as well.

I have been praying for a special blessing from the Lord, and He impressed upon me that I would know by the rain. It’s occasionally rained here the past few months, but nothing caught my attention, just another rainy day. The other night, I was reading Kynan’s book and when he started talking about rain, it was as if a lightning bolt struck; I sensed that’s where the Lord was pointing me.

Kynan’s scripturally sound writings have been a tremendous blessing in my life in more ways than one.

Yes, I highly recommend all of Kynan’s books.

Another Gem Inspired By The Holy Spirit!

I have known Pastor Kynan for almost 14 years, but the insight he has into the Spirit Realm never ceases to amaze me! He has always had an extreme gift for communicating the truth of God's Word in a manner that motivates his audience to digest and apply its principles.
