Another amazing read!

The more I read of Ella Phoenix's stuff, the more I like it. She has this really interesting way of mixing the expected with the unexpected, so that her stories will end up surprising you. Dealing with topics such as humiliation and bimbofication in a way where it doesn't seem horrible and degrading (in a bad way!) is hard, and in my experience, most erotica writers don't manage to do it.

Ms Phoenix does. Not only are her stories scorchingly hot and well written, but she also puts little touches in so that you never know just what to expect. This book is no different.

A gorgeous volume!

Sophisticates used to say they bought Playboy to read the articles and paid no attention to the pictures. I bought this book for the opposite reason: to look at the gorgeous pictures of libraries through the years — and they are gorgeous!

However, I deigned to read a few words of the text, and discovered that it was fascinating and beautifully written, so I read it in detail. While it speaks about libraries, it also treats the various external factors that affected libraries, including their shifting patrons — the state, the church, the nobility, the plutocrats, the philanthropists, and the democrats. It also considers the effects of technology — the invention of books, paper, movable-type printing, gas lighting, electricity, and computing. Not to mention the evolution of architectural styles from classical to medieval, renaissance, baroque, rococo, neoclassical, Victorian, and modern. And, of course, the incorporation of the fine arts into library design.

Although enjoyably readable, the book also includes all the scholarly apparatus necessary for a true student of libraries. Any lover of books, libraries, or beautiful buildings will delight in this volume.

I was slightly disappointed the focus was so heavy on the buildings--but when ...

I essentially read this in one sitting (about 14 hours). Initially when I flipped through it, I was slightly disappointed the focus was so heavy on the buildings--but when I got to reading it, I learned quite about about the relationship of the buildings and some of the challenges of preserving books. There's a lot more here than just architecture and there's a lot of great architecture. I learned a lot--numerous holes of my knowledge filled and many new areas to jump into found. The end notes and bibliography are wonderful as well; enough context to pick and choose next steps, warnings on outdated materials, etc.

This book covers libraries in Europe, North America, Asia, and some notes about the Incas, Aztecs and Mayans. I don't recall seeing much (anything?) about modern South America or Australia as I write this review.

Anyway, it's a beautiful book. If you're reading these reviews, you should get the book.

Can't keep quiet!

As of this entry every review has been five stars. And should you decide to purchase this gorgeous book you will immediately understand why. This truly is a spectacular work. It covers the history of the library from ancient times to the very present. While the majority of the focus is on Continental Europe and England there are a number of Asian and American examples included as well.

The Medieval and Baroque libraries are stunningly beautiful and are certainly my favorites. And, fortunately, they are very well represented in this collection. The last seventy pages are dedicated to contemporary libraries, and although impressive, they just don't evoke the same measure of appeal.

The photography here is awe-inspiring. The views are crystal clear and perfectly chosen. A cloth binding would have been an improvement but it's a small consideration and outweighed by a very attractive dust jacket.

I have a copy of "The Most Beautiful Libraries in the World", and although quite nice, it is not anywhere near this book's equal. I can't imagine any lover of books, libraries or architecture not thoroughly enjoying this outstanding production.

WOW!! GREAT BOOK!!

I was pleasantly surprised when I received the Permanent Makeup Manual. It was a thick book with colorful illustrations on almost every page. A professional makeup artist recommended this manual because she refers to it as a guide. The chapter on Color is very thorough on what colors to use for undertones for different procedures. I also will use this manual as my guide throughout my career as a permanent makeup artist. I would recommend this book to anyone in the industry or considering being a permanent makeup artist.

Buy and read this book before you make that call.

If you have ever been represented by a lawyer, I would bet that you wish you had read this book first. If you need to be represented by a lawyer you must read this book first. If nothing else, this book could save you thousands of dollars in legal fees. Better yet, this book may help you come to your senses and not even bother diving head first into a losing cause. This has NOT been a paid testimonial.

Fueled by Fear and Adrenaline

Fascinating introspection on the legal profession. This is a must read for anyone approaching a legal hassle.

Ms Kramer's chapter, "Fueled by Fear and Adrenaline" was an eye-opener. Lawyers are not the only group for which the description could apply. This is a must-read for teachers, law enforcement officers, and parents, as well as attorneys and their clients.!

Enjoy . . . and think it over.

"I should really learn how to think like an attorney

As a business owner, I've often said, "I should really learn how to think like an attorney." Well this book does just that! It really helped me understand where an attorney is coming from and how the "system" is set up.

I especially loved the section titled "Lawyers are trained to make everything complicated." This really helped me think through some of my contracts and how I could simplify the language... therefore making them more likely to be signed. What a concept!!! Her example of "issue spotting" on a neighborly dog watching contract was so clear and concise.

Finally, the "helpful hacks" were just that... very helpful. I learned so much reading this book. I recommend it to everyone in business and beyond!

1. What mutual funds are and how they operate
2. Detailed info. about equity, debt, derivatives and alternate asset classes
3. The expenses that investors have to incur to invest in them
4. Their accounting practices and management of liquidity
5. Documentation, offer documents, disclosures SEBI requirements, investor protection etc.
6. It highlights how the risk and returns are calculated using different methodologies.
7. Different investment styles and;
8. Taxation

Very often, mutual funds have been mistaken to be only the stock market. Ignorance and a risk averse attitude among the general public are partly responsible for the lack of knowledge in this area. A very common misconception of people is that these instruments are exclusively meant for long term investors. That is not true. There are many varieties of mutual funds available and the ease of diversification is probably the most important point that should instill confidence in people.
